In this tutorial, Africa Data Hub and OpenUp’s Carl Jacobs presents and showcases national and sub-national level data, features and layout of our Data Mapping Tool. The data mapping tool helps you put your story in context by understanding how the geographic location you are reporting on compares to its neighbours and what the reality is in that area according to a range of indicators.
We teach you how to search the available data by drilling down into country-specific and sub-national data to find noteworthy trends or outliers across the African continent by comparing a range of COVID-19 indicators. We trust that this interactive data tool will help you understand the COVID-19 situation in the geographic location you are reporting on in more depth and trigger new story ideas for your audiences.
The tutorial recorded during a live user-testing session shows you all of the National level COVID-19 data currently available for African countries on the Data Mapping Tool; this includes the cases, deaths, tests, vaccinations, vaccine distribution and variants of concern. In this showcase of the data, you will learn how to select a country and month of interest and how to navigate the Data Mapping tool. In addition, it showcases the Nigerian subnational level data requested by a user, now made available. This dataset includes cases, deaths and tests.
By opening the Data Mapping Tool on your computer, you can follow along.
